Fetal Bovine Serum (South America), Gamma Irradiated

Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) is the liquid part of blood that remains after the removal of the cellular fraction and coagulation factors. It is extracted by centrifuging aseptically collected, coagulated fetal bovine blood. Sterile FBS is obtained through triple filtration at 0.1µm.

FBS contains proteins and growth factors essential for maintaining and proliferating eukaryotic cells in vitro. It also includes attachment factors that create a “coating” effect on plastic surfaces, enhancing cell adhesion. These components make FBS indispensable in cell culture.

Gamma-irradiated serum minimizes the risks associated with the use of animal products and offers protection against low levels of microbial contaminants. This treatment has no significant effect on hormones, osmolality, pH, endotoxin levels, and electrophoretic profile, and may reduce hemoglobin levels.

All FBS batches are tested for endotoxin and mycoplasma levels, specific viruses (BVD), hemoglobin, total protein content, and cell culture performance.

Origin: South America
