Gentamicin is an antibiotic employed to prevent or eliminate bacterial contamination in cell and tissue cultures. It has a broad spectrum that includes both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Gentamicin sulfate binds to the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, disrupting protein synthesis.
Gentamicin sulfate is available in solutions of 10 mg/ml and 50 mg/ml.
