RPMI-1640 medium was developed by Moore and colleagues at Roswell Park Memorial Institute in 1966 to support the growth of human leukemic cells in both monolayer and suspension cultures.
RPMI-1640 medium is a versatile solution used for various mammalian cell lines, including Jurkat cells, hybridoma cells, human myeloma, mouse hybridoma, human leukocytes, and B and T lymphocytes.
This version is the Dutch modified RPMI-1640. Its formulation is L-Glutamine-free and includes HEPES (20mM) and sodium bicarbonate (1g/L).
